A MESSAGE FROM COLLEEN J. HOWE, PRESIDENT OF THE HOWE FOUNDATION

2003 has special meaning for the Howe family. It is the year of Gordie’s 75th Milestone Birthday…and my 70th(Egad, it can’t be here already!) It is also Mark’s 30th year of involvement in professional hockey and the continuation of Marty’s successful coaching career. Also, it is the 40th anniversary of Mr. Hockey“ breaking Rocket Richards all-time goal record in 1963. Wow! It is also Gordie and my 50th wedding anniversary. He still looks handsome as ever!
The Howe Foundation was created in 1993 as the genesis of the Howe Tours International goodwill visits which mirror the spirit of the Howe Foundation. During 1993, our daughter Cathy assisted me in establishing a 65 city birthday tour designed to raise funds for meaningful charities in each of the cities visited in North America. Gordie & I traveled to over 65 cities appearing at hundreds of events and functions and the unique tour helped generate nearly a million dollars for so many good causes. The tour allowed Gordie to share his milestone celebration with the fans of each community while carrying the message of the Howe Foundation to the people. Since he is Mr. Hockey“ and belongs to the world of hockey as a premier ambassador, it universally provided us with the opportunity to unite with the amateurs, the pros, the fans and communities during this special time in our lives to create an existing and unprecedented journey of sharing and giving.
The Howe Foundation continues its mission to assist children and our most recent goal is the establishment of a family museum, which will house a 50-year collection of artifacts and collectibles. We hope it will inspire others and serve to encourage youth and those of any age that your dreams can be achieved.
We thank everyone who has graciously reached out to us to play a role in supporting the goals and success of this celebration of life. It is an example of people who are not concerned with only themselves, but concerns, needs, and dreams of others. All of you have made possible this time of honoring a timeless hero-Gordie in the spirit of helping people unconditionally.
And to you, Gordie, you are truly, Mr. Hockey®, Mr. Dad, Grandfather, Husband and a living example to all people. We love you and thank you for all the special moments and inspiration you have given all of us.
